Sunday......Its the day when the table tennis finals were played. Me and chumps got tickets!!

yah i know ST blogged about the commonwealth games already. So I shall not say more, and just show some pictures.......that were not shown by her:>

We were decked out in red and white, Colours of the Singapore Flag. We supporters came almost complete with a banner. Incomplete because we got no flag.

Train Ride

I was nagged at for not wearing red. My maroon-coloured top was just washed, and I surely wouldn't have awful red coloured pants. Plus someone has to be in white top, to balance the colours alrite :P

Travelled down to the MSAC for the finals. Free public transport....for those ticket holders, like yours truly. But hey no big deal, tickets to city costs only $2.50 on a sunday.

We watched the game. And as you know, Singapore took all of the women's singles podium finish.
GO SINGAPORE!

After that, some of us went autograph and photo hunting. Too bad only got pictures taken with 2 of the players.
This is Xu Yan, the bronze medallist.( i hope i got it right)
Me and Xu Yan

and this is us with the gold medallist, Zhang Xue Ling. She packs a darn good smash!!
The fans

After we finished the photos and autographs. Some of us start to call home to inform folks back home to keep a lookout for our possible short appearance in the news clips.

anyway when we were done the the 'fan-sy' stuff, we made our way to melbourne city to do our touristy stuff next!!!

TAKE PICTURES!! TAKE PICTURES!!

Ache here. Ache there

Muscles are abit aching rite now. I have just started to do some physical exercise for the past 2 days, after stopped doing exercises for almost 4 months due to some health problem.

So tennis yesterday, soccer and a short run in the afternoon today.

I feel sluggish, slow on my feet, agility big fat zero.

But it feels great to be able to do sports after such a long break, especially things I love to do like kicking some balls around or whacking balls on a tennis court. And also it helps in keeping down my spare tire from upgrading (like 15" rims to 17" rims)

Now, to work for some things that I have told myself to do ( like training for a half marathon)

A nation of people with cash but no class

How true this article is. (that even me myself might be guilty of sometimes)

THE editorial, 'What of the litter?' (The Sunday Times, March 5), brings home once again the uncomfortable truth that Singaporeans in general would rather not face - that we are not anywhere near the kind of 'First World' people that we believe ourselves to be.

This, in fact, had been pointed out to us recently with special reference to the arts scene. And not too long ago, a minister, no less, had also felt that we were becoming a nation of people with cash but no class.

Telltale signs are everywhere in the heartlands if only one would sit back and observe - littering and soiling in lifts and covered carparks, the awful mess left behind in our food centres and flying debris, large and small, from windows of HDB flats.

On the road, we see the nouveau riche driving gleaming cars of the latest model despite the out-of-this-world prices but their ugly side - queue-cutting, impetuous honking, indiscriminate parking, etc. -- makes a stark and unflattering contrast to their new-found wealth.

And as rightly pointed out in the editorial, we are also much too quick to show intolerance towards less fortunate foreigners who come here to work in jobs which we shun, so much so that in some instances the threat of fines has to be instituted to keep us from doing the unspeakable.

It would seem that our material progress has outstripped our ability to demonstrate 'instinctive respectful habits' without the proverbial sword of Damocles constantly hanging over our heads.

Recently, I had a brief conversation with a foreign worker on the lift landing of my HDB block. In his halting English, the affable young man wished me 'Good Morning' and told me he was from Bangladesh, adding that he hoped to earn enough money so that his siblings could go to school back home.

He asked me to please wait so he could clean out the heavily littered lift, which he did in a jiffy. I felt ashamed and embarrassed. I thanked him as I entered the lift and he responded with 'Good Day, Sir', hardly missing a beat.

Since then, I have often wondered what this young man would tell his countrymen about Singaporeans' attitude towards public cleanliness. I also wonder what impression he has of us as a people of a First World nation. But, really, I don't think I want to know.

Admittedly, not all Singaporeans lack gentility. But the signs are clear that the number who suffer from this lack is large enough to be a cause for concern. Worse, for some strange reason, they don't seem to give a damn what others think of them.

However, I am optimistic that we will one day rid ourselves of our boorishness. This will take time but we can begin to change if only we could see ourselves as others see us.

Rip roar feed

I was sitting and watching The Great outdoors on TV after dinner. This week's theme was theme parks.

So they were talking about the Werribee Zoo and a rip roaring feed part of the zoo where you get to get real close with lions behind bars and you get to feed them.....for a fee of $40 for adults($15 for kids)

After watching, I thought of an idea where I can get extra cash. Its a ripoff idea though. Maybe I can call it pay-&-watch-me-eat. Where you can pay $5 and come into my dining area and watch me devour my food on my dinner plate. Visitors are entitled to desserts.

No. Not desserts for the visitor. Dessert for me. They watch me eat dessert and some special stunts like long burps or farts..

Ok crap again. But the zoo looks like an interesting place for a visit during my term break.

Over and out.

Golfing friday

I went to play a round of golf last friday at Centenary Park public golf course. I went alone and got into a flight with 2 retirees.

This round made me wish that i didnt go play that day, made me think why i picked up golf.(should have gone to the driving range instead)

Mishit most of my shots, balls going mostly left right, Almost hit a flight infront of us(missed by about 5metres). of course that guy was pretty anal and shouting things back from the distance. OOppsss.

A baad morning.

But It got better, with a few sweet tee-shots and the balls start to go a wee bit straighter. But still it was really a very forgettable round.

----------------------

Friday Morning passed quickly with the golf game. The afternoon....shopping at Chadstone. One of the biggest shopping complex within reasonable driving distance from my place. So I spent the afternoon shopping with ST.

Golf game in the morning....walk walk walk. Shopping walk walk walk again. But hey I m there to make sure has a fairly good time shopping, so i bite on and finished shopping.

HURRAY!! And ST was so nice to give me some breaks in between:P

Bought a cookbook. ST got a bag and a top.

Then it was dinner time at Glen Waverly's. We are having Chinese Food. Guo Tie, Shui Jiao, Da Rou Fan (food name, not friends' name)
ST & Me
Xiao Jia & ST

We gobbled up the food before the camera woman, ST remembered to take photos. By then, it was too late.

Sing Min & Zhang Fang
Daphne on the left

And coincidentally, we met quite a few friends and ex neighbours while having dinner.

After dinner, joined up another group of friends at Pancake parlour, chit chatting and end of the night.

And that was last friday.

Ohh my!!!

Take by ST, in a toilet. Must say this is pretty funny

Do not anyhow say anything

Nowadays, the word 'anything' is quite dangerous to say. Especially with friends who are not afraid and trying to be funny.

For the next example, which took place sometime ago in a cafe in Singapore.

K: What do you want to drink?
J: erm.....anything
K (to waiter): I shall have a Ice Mocha, and B shall have a kiwi, honey, lime, green tea.
Waiter:*sniggers*
J: ...........

Recently hear from ST
(lunch for prata. and some prata with cheese)
A: You wan sugar on your prata
B: anything(or something like that)
A: Ok(sprinkles sugar on prata and serves)
B: Why my cheese prata got sugar??!!! Salty sweet how can??
A: You said anything

A profit of 2K!

I would have a profit of AUD$2097.72 from the previous week, if i had AUD$100K to make some investment.

This was part of my assignment and a semester-long work of maintaining a stock portfolio of a few Australian companies. So this is also quite a short term thing (just into a week only) But this profit has not take into account of transaction fees and stamp duties.

Taking account of those charges would probably mean mean a profit or maybe less than a thousand or none?

Anyway I have not much knowing of how these things work. And from the looks of it, earning money from the stock exchange doesn't look like easy money.

Face recognition

Tried this face recognition thing from when I read about it from Little Miss Drinkalot.

I took a picture of myself with my handphone. No hi-res pics. Just for the fun of it.

Results came out. Number one result, Zhang Ziyi. *faint*

So below are some of my results.

face recognition

2nd picture is Marc Almond(no idea whos that)
3rd Jimi Hendrix!! (ST says my nose looks similar.
4th Kim Jong II !!!???
5th pic is Leon Lai

I shall try again, with a better picture, when I am free. Or perhaps not.....i am scared to face the truth

Go try it when you are free

Passenger View, originally uploaded by Nerd with love handles.

Some picture taken awhile ago.

Guess whose car is this?

Week 3 of the semester

Only three weeks into the school, and I have submitted the first assignment of the semester:( a small one.

A presentation too. My group did alrite. We weren't the worst. Although we could have done abit more. As you know, nowadays presentations are pretty standard. At least some powerpoint slides to accompany the presenter.

This guy went up with other except his piece of paper and mumbled on. I start seeing people walking around the lecture theatre. The presentation was quite a turn off.

Anyway, I've got transportation now!! Just got it last friday

A 1992 Daihatsu Charade
Charade

No power window, no power steering, no central locking. But hey what do ya expect from a 14 yr old car. But it drives pretty alrite. But I will have to be abit gentle on her though:p

Afte ST suggested fish and chips for tomorrow's dinner. My mind is filled with images of fish n chips sitting infront of me with a good cold beer.

Fish dipped in batter, then deep fried till its crispy golden brown.

But the bed looks more welcoming

Over and out!!

Magic School Bus has arrived

Last week was the first week of school of the new semester. Just like last semester, i take the inter-campus shuttle bus...(make it a mini bus of about 24 passenegers) to school every morning.

New semester, new students.....alot more students taking the shuttle bus. So when i come and go to school, i have to worry about getting onboard the bus. Because there is always a handful of students left behind....especially the first and last bus.

So monday came, as I was waiting in the queue to catch the bus. I thought "If there is any students that can't onto the bus, i shall do what singaporeans do best....COMPLAIN!"

But hey the bus came, and it was one with bigger capacity. So no longer will students worry about not able to get up onto the bus. Good job Monash whatever department.....

Listening to the past

Ever since I heard that Oasis is performing in Singapore. I have been digging up the Oasis albums i bought and listening to it. But no i did not attend the concert.

Remember this?

and this?

Perhaps its been awhile since i saw or heard this band in the media. Just reading the piece on them in the newspaper made me go grab their songs and listen to it once again.

Still remember in during my polytechnic days, it was LC who introduced oasis, one of the greatest rock band, to me. I even joined #oasis_fans on irc. And that was the only IRC outing i ever went out to.

Right now my winamp playlist is filled with some of the bands of those days, oasis and the smashing pumpkin....

And all the roads we have to walk along are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I would
Like to say to you
I don't know how

Because maybe
You're gonna be the one who saves me?
And after all
You're my wonderwall

Hot day

I feel like I am being baked, roasted, in the dry heat. And probably more to come in the next few days.

Melbourne's weather is very dry. so when its warm, you feel like you are being baked and roasted. In singapore the humidity makes you feel like you are being steamed.

So how now brown cow???

So now I sit in the school's library with my laptop, making use and enjoying the cool air-cond. I am a poor student, no air-cond at home.

oh yeah I went car-shopping. i think I am in love with a Charade. Yeah its a Charade only. It feels zippy, drives great. When i get my hands on it, shall post some pics of it. Till then....

Over and out!
