Digital Fortress

Bought this on friday, just finished reading on Monday. I read it faster than I read my notes:p

A story on cryptography, secrets within the US top intelligence agency. Battles fought not are no the conventional ones with guns and bombs on the battlefield, but fought on the electronic front. Breaking codes and saving the agency.

A rather interesting plot. Hmm...time to read my notes. maybe not. I think I shall zzzz

Quiet Saturday

Quiet Satuday night, sitting in front of the TV watching Lord Of The Ring, The Two Towers. A quiet night.

Sitting on the couch, my notes scattered on my left, laptop on my err... lap. Making notes for my revision. These few days have been spent sitting infront of the computer, with my half-hearted attempt at looking through the semester's worth of tutorials.

Not much going on, so nothing interesting, so no update.

Met up with a lecturer to discuss about a project he has on hand. I am interested in doing full time projects next semester, so trying to find out more potential ones. Of course, It has to wait. Need to depend on results:( I have a feeling, not too good.

2 more paper to go.

Round 1

1st Paper of exam just ended today. Exam Venue, quite interesting. Well at least for me. It was at the Caulfield race course.

I half expected to be doing the paper while horses prance around track in full view.

105 questions of MCQ. Not too good. Not optimistic. Memory block, forgot some formulas, things like this. If I can get good marks, I really should go off to the casino and throw $100 on one bet of black jack or a single number in roulette.

Judging from my friends' msn nicks, they don't feel too good about it either. Examples like

"Damn shit"
"Please don't return to [insert subject here] next year" (in chinese)
"Just as i seen light, i was hit on my head by [insert subject here]" (in chinese too)

Well, all in His hands. Did what I could, although really i can really do better. Nothing I could do now. Gonna work harder for the next paper.

How Come?

Look at the size difference.

.NET Framework SDK Version 1.1 - 108MB

.NET Framework SDK Beta 2.0 - 318MB

Added some API and removed some API from the old version 1.1, and the size difference, about 200+MB.

So much more library added? Which means you can do something like download the whole internet? Ok lah, I know not possible, unless your hard disk diameter is maybe as huge as the size of the freaking earth....plus external hard disk, size of the moon.

Pardon the geek talk:P

Trying to download the .NET framework SDK, derust my pea-size knowledge on this area.

Unofficial Woohoo

My assignments are unofficially over. Ho say liao!! woohoo. Due date for both assignments are tomorrow. So I sort of finished, short of printing it. I am not gonna care about it anymore. And pay more attention to my exam on the coming Monday.

Exams happen so fast. It is here before I can say "What the hell is going on in class?" So cannot really woohoo too fast. And it marks the end of semester. Grades not going to be too good.

Sort of lost focus during mid semester. The motivation and drive to study suddenly poof! Gone. But anyway, I got some motivation to study, have to catch up on studies. 4 Paper coming up, ending on the 8th.

I shall leave on the 11th for Tasmania. I am gonna be a bloody tourist. Everyone say CHEEzE, konica whatever! Bring out your peace signs and silly poses everyone. We are gonna need that.

Heck the library is damn noisy. Gonna read some notes now....

Human for animals

Just saw this blog where he puts up interesting ad design n stuff like this on his blog.

Don't treat others the way you don't want to be treated.

(Originally by Agency TBWA, Paris....i think)

Meaningful and interesting.

But I don't think I would be turning vegetarian soon. And i think many others will still continue illegal poaching for shark fins, deer penis??? and stuff like this.

Food and such II

Its been a long time since I cooked. So Monday, I had the sudden mood to cook. With permission from the 'Dictator of the Kitchen', I was allowed to cook dinner.

One reason the dictator refuse to hand me control of the kitchen was because I always mess it up. But anyway yeah, I cooked a simple meal, just a plate of greens and a chicken. With the mood, my cooking seem to taste and look better than before. (See here)

The greens seem more cheerful
Stir Fry Veges

The chicken well...erm look ok lah.
Stir Fry Chicken
Would look better if there is abit of parsley or coriander on top as garnish. But I think there isn't any(or i can't find it).

Ok the taste! which is the most important. Comments was......Veg was crunchy and cooked just right. Good. Chicken was very nice, better than that some last time(or something like that). Classic sitr fry chicken, with a bit of change of ingredients.

If I can cook, so can you!!!

Ok enough about my own review. Lets come to my breakfast this morning. My Dictator made me something damn nice this morning.

Delicious puff pastry

Delicious puff pastry

She made pastry, with ham, cheese, eggs. and maybe some other thing lah. So damn nice, brings warmth into my stomach...such comfort food. And easy too!! Next time can save some money, no need buy from shops outside. Make your own, add your own filling.

Ok enough writing for now.....assignment time.

Cold weather sometimes they are closed too. When the weather is warm and sunny, they come out set up their stalls. Just like the flies and spiders over here, only warm weather then will they come out :p

My Mental Age

Ever wonder how childish are you? 25 not too bad:p

You Are 25 Years Old

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

Random

These few weeks are gonna be abit hectic. 4 more assignments due within the next 2 weeks. Then the exams. Therefore I think there will be more random short posts here. I always do that when I sit in front of the computer for too long.

Gotta take my mind off work for awhile, to recharge abit. And how can i take a break without playing online games!!

Been playing stickcricket. Flash based online game based on.....erm cricket. Not the insect, the sport. Anyway its not a popular sport in Singapore to start with. But anyway you could give it a try.

Try FHM 100 Games for some source of online games too.

Another interesting site I wanna recommend is Wikipedia. Very useful site when you wanna find out facts.

As you can see.....This has turned into a random no purpose post. Usually it happens after spending a whole day debugging a program, only to find out its just one single character that causes the function not to work.

I shall go fight Z monsters now. Got to wake up early for lessons.

Depressing TV

Lately watching TV might make people feeling sad, depressed. Feelings along this line. Reports after reports of disasters happening, tragedies, loss of human lives.

About a week ago or longer, It was the Bali bombing and the Hurricane Katrina ravaging New Orleans. This week, Mother Nature hit us earthlings with Hurricane Stan in the Central America and southern Mexico area. Also earthquake in the Pakistan and India area.

Disasters that happen seem to be growing in destructive power. Seem like end of the world coming soon huh. One can't help feeling this way when I've watched Armageddon on TV last night. Probably Day After Tomorrow would probably portray a better picture of the worst that is to come. Probably pay back time for using and exhausting the earth's resources.

Can only pray hope it would get better, especially for the victims (which will definitely be difficult....very difficult)

Some interesting quotes

Got it from my msn list. Some of my friends' nickname.....

"Everyone of us has photographic memory. Just that some of us run out of film"

"I tried to drown my sorrows. But they learnt to swim"

Am I in shape

Gone are the days where 12 pull ups can be done, 3 sets of different push-ups, 6km run can be done on alternate days.

Feeling fat these few days, this morning I woke up and tried to do some pushups. I did 20, and my arms ache. I do 30 crunches, and I am left gasping abit for breathe. Nonetheless, I persevere and went on to complete 3 sets of push-ups and crunches. My legs feel tired, my lungs feel like exploding after a 2km run.

I am in shape. Bloody round and flat shape I must say. How to serve and defend country?

Maybe I should just try to squeeze in some minutes for some simple exercises each day and try to put in some running session every(almost) alternate days. Yes I must do it.

Erm...but weather cold leh, got assignments and exams coming up :p

War of the Spiders

They have encroached upon our land. We spotted more and more cowebs. A sign of activities. They have even infiltrated our land. Upon order from The Queen, I was sent to assasinate the one that was spotted in the kitchen.

I smashed it, in cold blood. I spotted another. With permission from The Queen, I was on a search and destroy mode, killing another one.

The spiders have come. They have started their invasion. Our defence have to set up. Insecticides have to be sprayed as a defensive measure. We must be ruthless. We must be strong. Though their numbers great, but we shall prevail!!

So much crap for spiders.....but yeah its true, more spiders appearing. HAHAH kill spiders!!! I seem to have obsession with killing spiders:p

Got back another assignment, not that good but not too bad either. Thank God.

Been thinking whether to do my degree as a project/research. I find that doing coursework becomes abit predictable, a tad boring :p Lectures, tutorials, assignments..repeat 2 or 3 times, then exams.

Oh well will have to wait till i finish my exams and get my results first. Because I need an average of distinction grade to qualify. Have to start slogging away if I really want to consider that path.

Meanwhile back to my work now :(

The apprentice

Its tuesday night. TV night, with back to back CSI series. CSI is the the only show in Australia that makes me sit down and watch the TV. After CSI, it was The Apprentice, the fourth season.

I watched the past 2 seasons and found it quite interesting. All the back stabbing, politicking. Not that I enjoy such things, but its kind of entertaining.

The first episode starts with guys vs girls. The task was to set up gym classes in a gym. Anyway the guys won it.

In the boardroom, where 2 or 3 contestants, including the project, would face Trump to fight for their survival and future appearance in the show. There was 2 woman, Kristi and Melissa. Before this, Melissa had a lot of friction with the rest of the groups. Although Kristi's performance wasn't

So trump bombarded her. She started to say she can't work with women yada...yada(shooting herself in the foot), they are intimidated by her....by her beauty... :|

Kristi on left, Melissa on right. You think Kristi would be intimidated by her beauty? Trump said Kristi is beautiful, would she be intimidated by Melissa? haha and Melissa herself said no...shoot herself in the other foot.

Anyway Melissa was fired, and Kristi lives to fight another day.

anyway gonna print my notes...so long people!!

I subscribed

Me and Estee recently subscribed to The Straits Times Online. As you know by now that the Straits Times online requires subscription fees of $60......if you are a subscriber of the paper version.

This registration and subscription issue was implemented quite awhile already. Registration yes, I understand maybe they want to keep track of their readers for maybe marketing purposes or try to cater to their readers. But when they require $$ from readers, we felt that they don't really justify the $$ they ask for. Print version, i say they are good, best in Singapore. The Newpaper erm, just put in lots of handphone ringtone downloads, soccer news and some crap news lah. Chinese paper, I don't read and yes gossips and crap stories. So Straits Times is able to stand out from the crowd, very small crowd.

Both of us felt that it is quite silly to require subscription fees from people already subscribed to your paper version, especially people in Singapore. It seems quite plain silly to get money from you twice. However, they do provide a rather friendly interface and some other extras pictures here and there. We wanna keep track of news in Singapore in Down Under, so our $$ goes to them.

But please do not think that you are good. Yes you may be good but not that good. Bigger newspapers like International Herald Tribune and BBC offer more contents, and what more, its free. And I do not have to register then put in my username password before i can start reading the news. Hopefully with the subscriber's $$, ST will improve and do a better job.

Tulip Festival

Was at the Tesselar Tulip Festival on Saturday. Weather is good. Warm sun. It should be safe to say that spring is really here. No more gloomy weather (i hope).

This tulip festival was held in some other town. So we drove there, about an hour-+ time.
A group shot
Me

So what we see is tulips.
Tulip farm

More tulips
Another tulip

I could go on and on with more tulips but hey! I think you are bored already huh. More pictures here

We wrapped up our activities early noon, then went to do grocerries shopping. Dinner was simple affair, with a roast chicken(buy one) and some greens.

School is starting tomorrow. Have to start waking up early again. I think I am going to struggle to wake up at 7 tomorrow morning. So I will go sleep now. Shall leave you here with the pictures I uploaded.

Enjoy! Over and out!!

Tragedy in Bali

As you all may have heard on news, saw the clips on the TV. A tragedy took place yet again in Bali. Last I heard in the morning was about 100 injured and 25 killed. Really sad indeed, such things would have to take place. Innocent lives lost, but the end is nowhere near for the people who done it. More innocent lives will be lost and many times more will be affected.

I actually felt a sadness in me. Usually I don't feel much about such event that took place. But as I watch the news play the clip of the explosion taking place, I felt a tinge of sadness in me. I sympathise with the people who lost their loved ones. Their lives will never be the same again.

When will such things stop? These attacks hurt not only citizens of the western nations, but majority of the casualties are made up of the indonesians themselves. These acts of cowardice disgusts me, and I am sure many others too.

Cowards! Selfish bastards!
