I subscribed

Me and Estee recently subscribed to The Straits Times Online. As you know by now that the Straits Times online requires subscription fees of $60......if you are a subscriber of the paper version.

This registration and subscription issue was implemented quite awhile already. Registration yes, I understand maybe they want to keep track of their readers for maybe marketing purposes or try to cater to their readers. But when they require $$ from readers, we felt that they don't really justify the $$ they ask for. Print version, i say they are good, best in Singapore. The Newpaper erm, just put in lots of handphone ringtone downloads, soccer news and some crap news lah. Chinese paper, I don't read and yes gossips and crap stories. So Straits Times is able to stand out from the crowd, very small crowd.

Both of us felt that it is quite silly to require subscription fees from people already subscribed to your paper version, especially people in Singapore. It seems quite plain silly to get money from you twice. However, they do provide a rather friendly interface and some other extras pictures here and there. We wanna keep track of news in Singapore in Down Under, so our $$ goes to them.

But please do not think that you are good. Yes you may be good but not that good. Bigger newspapers like International Herald Tribune and BBC offer more contents, and what more, its free. And I do not have to register then put in my username password before i can start reading the news. Hopefully with the subscriber's $$, ST will improve and do a better job.
